A few words from Gail Constant…
You may already be familiar with the phrase on social media jokes…”My teacher always told me that I would never amount to anything in life, but here I am sitting on my sofa saving myself and the world!’ But actually, you will be disappointed to know nothing could be further from the truth. Keeping fit and eating a healthy diet are very important in saving yourself, and personal hygiene is at the top of the list of imperative chores during this lockdown period. Without these basic disciplines in place you will soon be seeking medical care at a time when it is really better to stay indoors!
Helping you keep your teeth and gums healthy is always a top priority for us at St Peters Studio Dental Clinic. During these uncertain and unprecedented times of Corona virus and lockdown, our daily routines and schedules have been turned upside down. As easy as it can become to miss out on the daily cleaning of our teeth, it is nonetheless the best way to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Good oral hygiene habits preserve a healthy smile, please be reminded of the discipline around good home maintenance of the teeth and supporting structures. Without healthy teeth, your smile will not be as attractive!
We recommend brushing twice daily for two minutes with a fluoridated toothpaste. Nothing works better to remove plaque and to prevent cavities and gum disease.
Rather than rinsing after brushing, spit out the toothpaste thoroughly and allow any residue of toothpaste to remain in the mouth. The good properties such as fluoride and desensitizing will continue to be absorbed into the teeth for another 20-30 minutes after brushing.
Make sure to replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Bristles that become frayed and worn will be less effective at cleaning teeth. Both manual and powered toothbrushes can effectively and thoroughly clean teeth. People who have difficulty using
a manual toothbrush may find powered toothbrushes easier to use and vice versa.
Cleaning the in between surfaces of the teeth is also important, as even the best toothbrush and brushing technique will not remove all the bacteria which can cause a cavity and/or gum disease. Floss and interdental brushes (TePe for example) are the most common products recommended for cleaning between the teeth once daily. Plaque is a sticky colony of bacteria and it takes the friction of the floss or interdental brush to break up these colonies.
We will be providing oral hygiene treatment as well as other elective dental treatments at St Peters Studio Dental Clinic at some point soon in the future, hopefully from the end of June, and we wait with anticipation for instruction from our Dental governing bodies. We miss you all so much and hope to see you very soon.
