Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain or composite which fit over the front of a tooth much like a false fingernail covers a nail. Dental veneers conceal damaged teeth not reparable using filler materials, as well as reduce small gaps, bring slightly crooked teeth back into line, give a natural width and length to odd-shaped teeth and cover teeth too severely discoloured for cleaning or whitening. Veneer treatments are often used for one or more of the top, visible front teeth since they are exceedingly aesthetic.
The tooth is prepared by removing a thin layer of enamel (2) and an impression taken. The impression together with instructions on tooth colour is sent to the dental laboratory where the dental veneer is hand-crafted. The veneer is then bonded into place by your dentist (3).
